U of L Assistant and Former Cat Sued Over Derby Tickets

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - An Oldham County man who operates a Kentucky Derby ticket business alleges in a lawsuit that an assistant University of Louisville basketball coach kept $50,000 of
his money that was supposed to be used to obtain Derby tickets for the broker.

Scott Davis says in the lawsuit filed Friday in Jefferson County Circuit Court that he gave $70,000 in cash to the assistant coach, Steve Masiello. The lawsuit says Masiello provided $10,000 worth of
tickets for Davis and returned $10,000 but kept the other $50,000.

Masiello's attorney, Tim McCall, told The Courier-Journal that the allegations in the lawsuit are untrue. Another lawyer for Masiello, Larry Wilder, told the newspaper that Masiello never took any money from Davis to buy tickets or promised to do so.

Davis operates DerbyDeals.com and is also an Oldham County magistrate. He says in the lawsuit many customers were "enraged" when he couldn't deliver tickets.

The newspaper reports that the Jeffersonville, Indiana Police Department is investigating the matter.
