Forward Austin Steed will not return to the South Carolina men's basketball team next season, coach Darrin Horn announced Friday.

Steed has one more year of eligibility remaining. He started 11 games this season, but finished the year relegated to the bench. He finished averaging 2.9 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.

The decision appeared to be Horn's. The coach said at his postseason news conference Friday that there was not a place for Steed on next year's roster. But Horn added that Steed's scholarship will be honored, if he chooses to stay in school and graduate.

“I’ve visited with Austin, and there’s just not opportunity for him," Horn said. "We want him, if he wants to, to finish his education here at South Carolina. So that’s a decision that he’ll have to make whether he wants to play or not, in terms of transfer somewhere else or staying here and staying on scholarship.”
