Re: Tournament expansion?
This expansion is going to kill much of what we love in college basketball.
Take the next 32 or so teams that didn't make it into the NCAA Tournament and you have basically what teams are now in the NIT.
The NIT will get left in the dust with teams that are those in the CBI and whatever other tournament, basically all those other I-AA size conferences or beyond mediocrity in the power leagues.
Another thing that will get devastated, the SEC and other league tournaments. For example this year, why would Mississippi State bust their rears and play such a game when they would know that they would be one of the 96 or so teams in The Dance? Where will the drama be of those smaller conferences with that one shining moment, that one automatic trip to the NCAA to have that opportunity to get smashed by one of the big #1s of the tournament? Now we'll take both of those teams.
Why would it matter that Florida played a better schedule? Why would it matter that you played a great pre-conference schedule? All you'll have to do is finish in the top half of your conference in the overall standings if you're a BCS program and you're in. If you're a smaller conference, finish in the top two and your golden.
It's going to water college basketball down on all points. We're going to see fewer games that mean something early and later in the season and more games that you'd just assume flip over and watch reruns of Andy Griffith.
More isn't always better. New and improved isn't always worth more.
At some point, you have to realize, with the exception of getting more money, you can't make the best sports experience any better by trying to make something bigger because of egos and 'MAKING MORE MONEY".
It's like the diminishing returns in economics. If you're washing clothes and it says add one cup of bleach per large load for best results - that's what works best. But if you think this bleach stuff is so great and you put 2 or 3 or 5 cups of bleach in that same large load, you're likely going to have a bad bleach smell afterwards, probably have discoloration on your items that said to follow directions and the results will not be what you desired to begin with.
Why can't we leave good enough alone? That's like taking the Super Bowl to Europe or Canada or Mexico which has been talked about.
It's American. We made it great. Why move it overseas besides "Make More Money"?

Re: Tournament expansion?
Couldn't agree more. Does a 16-16 North Carolina deserve to be in? HEEEELLLLL no. Neither does a 17-15 UConn. And the impact on conference tournaments would be horrible. If you're going to expand it that much then to hell with it. Just cancel the conference tournaments and have all 347 teams in the NCAAs.
