Mothers of Knight, Gilchrist say sons unfazed by Bledsoe reports

The mothers of Michael Gilchrist and Brandon Knight dismissed the notion of any potential impact that last weekend's New York Times story about Eric Bledsoe might have on their sons playing for Kentucky.

"Our decision is sound," said Cynthia Richardson, the mother of Gilchrist. She said her son, the No. 1-rated player in the high school class of 2011, had "no intention" of reconsidering his commitment to Kentucky.

In a story published Saturday, the New York Times reported that the NCAA was investigating whether Bledsoe should have been considered an ineligible player in 2009-10. The Times said the NCAA was looking into the validity of Bledsoe's high school transcript and whether he received improper benefits as a high school player.

"I guess we'll have to wait and see what the NCAA says and go from there," said Tonya Knight, the mother of Brandon Knight.

Upon the advice of his parents, Knight did not sign a national letter of intent. He committed to UK with a less binding financial aide offer that would give the player greater freedom to exercise his options should he decide to do so.

But his mother indicated that nothing in the New York Times story led Brandon Knight to second-guess his commitment.

"My son is going to Kentucky," she said.

Tonya Knight acknowledged talking to UK Coach John Calipari about the Bledsoe story. She declined to divulge what was said.

Shawn Teague, the father of Marquis Teague, arguably the best point guard in the high school class of 2011, said it was too early to know what to think about the New York Times story. He said he hoped the questions about Bledsoe's remarkable improvement academically and the improper benefits were not true.

"You have to see how it plays out to know how you feel about it," he said.
