Charlotte 49ers gold still tarnished

Charlotte's loss to Xavier was bad for all the obvious reasons. The Musketeers shot better, rebounded better, passed better, and, if it weren't for late careless fouls, they would have won by much more than 14.
Charlotte's 81-67 home loss also was bad for a less obvious reason. The crowd included Daniel Guerrero, the athletic director at UCLA, and Greg Shaheen, the NCAA's vice president for business strategy.
Why does that matter?
It matters because Guerrero is the chair of the NCAA men's basketball tournament selection committee, a committee that Shaheen oversees.
Judy Rose, the Charlotte athletic director who is a former chair of the committee, says tournament officials are doing more scouting this season. Rather than read about the teams that might make the tournament, and might not, they go to the gym and watch them play.
They saw Xavier play. They saw the 49ers lose their third straight game. Charlotte hasn't won since Feb. 6.
