Calipari Says His Young Team Is Making Strides
With a week between games, John Calipari has had plenty of time to think about how his team played against Indiana and what they need to work on.
"We slipped by Indiana, didn't play particularly great, didn't shoot the ball as well as I would have liked us to have shot but we played five good minutes of basketball to win the game. The rest of the game was even. You've got to give Indiana credit. Tom Crean came in with a great game plan, his kids fought like crazy, they competed," said Calipari via his Lexy.com audio tweet.
"You walk away from games like that saying let's learn. We had some guys not play to their level that we need that intensity, that fire and they didn't have it. But you know what, they have to learn from that game," Calipari said via Lexy.com.
Cal gave his players a couple days off because it's finals week, but says the work they have put in has been good and they are making progress.
"I was proud of our guys. We gave them Sunday off. We gave them Monday off. We had individual work yesterday (Tuesday). and today (wednesday) we practiced for an hour and a half. We've got to let them focus on finals when they're in finals. We don't play again until Saturday so we will practice tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday to get ready for the game."
The next three games should be tune-ups for that matchup with Louisville on New Year's Eve. Still, this is a young team and they have to keep it together to make sure they don't have a slip up. Calipari says he's confident his guys are getting it.
"It's been a good run so far. Again, we're still young, we're still up and down, but we're making the kind of strides we need to make."
