UK Athletics Honors Veteran's Day
Thank you to our veterans and current military personnel

Nov. 11, 2010

Last Saturday, Kentucky honored our men and women in uniform as part of Military Appreciation Day at Commonwealth Stadium. Within UK Athletics, many of our student-athletes have veterans or active military in their families and we'd like to recognize these men and women as part of Veteran's Day.

  • Brian Adams (Football/Baseball, freshman) – Grandfather, Jim Waldron, served in the Army.
  • Ashleigh Albrecht (Women’s golf, sophomore) – Brother served in Croatia and Bosnia.
  • Macy Allen (Softball, junior) – Grandfather, James Donham, served in the Army for two years and earned the Medal of National Defense and a Purple Heart; Grandfather, Ray Abbott, served in the Air Force for 18 years.
  • Liz Breed (Women’s golf, freshman) – Both of her grandfathers served in World War II.
  • Aaron Boyd (Football, sophomore) – Mother, Scherer Boyd, served in the Army.
  • Nik Brazley (Football, junior) – Grandfather, Donahue Price, served in the Army; Uncle, Dan Price, served in the Army; Cousin, Cody Campbell, served in the Air Force.
  • Kelly Browning (Women’s soccer, senior) – Father, Cliff Browning, served in the Marines; Grandfather, Clerence Burkett, served in the Navy at Pearl Harbor.
  • Ginny Carroll (Softball, freshman) – Grandfather, John Albert Pedigo, was a First Lieutenant in the Army during the Korean War; Great-Grandfather, Ivan Finley Pedigo, served in the Army during World War I.
  • Clay Cecil (Football, sophomore) – Brother, Drew Cecil, served in the Marines; Grandfather, Charles Miller, served in the Marines; Grandfather, Morris Cecil, served in the Navy.
  • Kevin Corby (Men’s soccer, freshman) – Grandfather, Robert Corby, served in the Air Force and earned two Purple Hearts; Grandfather, William Wingerter, served in the Army.
  • Holly Cunningham (Gymnastics, freshman) – Father, Charles Cunningham, was in the Army.
  • Tyler Davenport (Football, freshman) – Grandfather, Donald Davenport, served in the Army
  • Samantha DeMartine (Softball, senior) – Father, Douglas DeMartine, served as a military police officer; Grandfather, Russell DeMartine, served in the Army in the Korean War and World War II.
  • Trey Edwards (Football, freshman) – Grandfather, Gerald Edwards, served in the Army
  • Dennis Emery (Head coach, men’s tennis) – Son, Andrew Emery, is currently serving in the Marines.
  • Kastine Evans (Women’s basketball, freshman) – Grandfather, Joseph Evans, served in the Army during World War II and the Korean War
  • Matt Frawley (Track and Field, junior) – Brother, Lawrence Frawley, is currently serving in the Army.
  • Sarah Frazer (Softball, freshman) – Grandfather, Lloyd Frazer, retired as a major after serving in the Air Force for 10 years and also the Air Force Reserves for 20 years; Grandfather, Clyde McFadden, served in the Army during World War II on the battle front in Germany; Uncle, Ronald Frazer, died in service at the age of 23 in Vietnam
  • Max Godby (Football, freshman) – Grandfather, Johnny Godby, served in the Army
  • Ashleigh Gustafson (Softball, junior) – Father, Ronald Gustafson, served in the Army Reserves; Grandfather, Axel Gustafson, served in the Army during World War II; Grandfather, William Linton, served in the Navy.
  • Kayla Hartley (Gymnastics, freshman) – Brother, Matthew Hartley, served in the Air Force.
  • Emily Holsopple (Rifle, freshman) – Grandfather, David G. Holsopple, served in the Navy; Grandfather, James R. Jones, served in the Navy.
  • Suzanne Holt (Track and Field, senior) – Brother, Heath Holt, is currently a Captain in the Army.
  • James Jasis (Rifle, junior) – Brother-in-law, Ryan Eaves, serves in the Army National Guard.
  • Betsie Johnson (Women’s golf, sophomore) – Grandfather served in World War II.
  • Neiko Johnson (Baseball, senior) – Brother, Jason Johnson, served in the Army as a Personnel Sergeant.
  • Emily Jolly (Softball, freshman) – Grandfather, Kenneth Jolly, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with oak cluster after serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a flight instructor.
  • Kayla King (Women’s soccer, freshman) – Grandfather, James Patrick Qunkert, served in the United State military; Grandfather, Emery Austin Russell, served in the United States military
  • La'Rod King (Football, sophomore) – Father, Rodriguez King, served in the Army.
  • Elizabeth Koberstein (Volleyball, freshman) – Father, Joe Koberstein, served in the Marine Corps for four years and had a 14-month tour of duty in Vietnam.
  • Jacob Lewellen (Football, sophomore) – Grandfather, James Fackler, served in the Army.
  • Heather Lott (Women’s golf, sophomore) – Brother, Father and Grandfather all served; Father served in Vietnam and Grandfather served in World War II.
  • Ricky Lumpkin (Football, senior) – Mother, Catherine Lumpkin, and father, Ricky Lumpkin, both served in the Army.
  • Ben Mason (Track and Field, sophomore) – Brother is currently serving in the Air Force.
  • Anna Mattox (Swimming and Diving, junior) – Father, Al Mattox, is currently serving in the Army in Iraq.
  • Laura McGehee (Women’s golf, junior) – Grandfather served in Vietnam.
  • Craig McIntosh (Football, sophomore) – Currently a member of Kentucky’s ROTC.
  • Carly Morrow (Women’s basketball, senior) – Grandfather, Hugh Morrow, Sr., served in the Air Force; Grandfather, Gil Stone, served in the Navy during the Korean War.
  • Ryan Mossakowski (Football, freshman) – Grandfather, Alphonse Mossakowski, served in the Army.
  • Jarrod Polson (Men’s basketball, freshman) – Brother, Eric Coker, is in the Navy; Grandfather, George Polson, was in the Army; Grandfather, Gene Lintemuth, served in the Air Force.
  • Eric Quigley (Men’s tennis, junior) – Step-brother, John Quigley, is currently serving in the Army.
  • Lauren Rapp (Volleyball, senior) – Grandfather, George F. Rapp, was an Army Medical Corp for two years; Grandfather, John A. Templeton, served in the Army and served for two years including a tour in Italy after World War II.
  • Taylor Ray (Women’s soccer, junior) – Brother, Christopher Ray, currently serving in the United States Marine Corps.
  • Phylicia Reshard (Gymnastics, senior) – Father, Leroy Reshard, served in the Army for three years; Uncle, Lloyd Reshard, was in the Air Force
  • Rachel Riley (Softball, junior) – Grandfather, Billy Moran, served in the Navy for two years.
  • Ashlee Rose (Women’s golf, junior) – Great grandfather and grandfather both served in the Vietnam War.
  • Annie Rowlands (Softball, senior) – Grandfather, Robert Hyde, served in the Army during World War II.
  • Erika Silence (Softball, junior) – Father, Mike Silence, served in the Marines for four years; Sister, Heather Silence-Rezentes, currently serves in the Army (seven years); Grandfather, William Wancik, served in the Navy for four years; Great-grandfather, Charles Jackson Silence, served in the Army for three years; Brother-in-law, Christian Rezentes, is an E5 Sergeant and is on his second tour of duty in Iraq after six years of service.
  • Donte Rumph (Football, freshman) – Grandfather, Otis Rumph, served in the Army.
  • Keyla Snowden (Women’s basketball, junior) – Mother, Sharadon, and Father, Rory, served in the Army; her mother served in the Gulf War and her father in the Korean War.
  • William Tanner, (Football, freshman) – Father, Hugh Tanner, served in the Marines; Grandfather, Ray Tanner, served in the Marines; Grandfather, Richard Miller, served in the Marines.
  • Alyssa Telang (Women’s soccer, sophomore) – Brother, Justin Cholewa, currently serving in the United States Marine Corps; Brother, Trey Cholewa, currently serving in the United States Marine Corps.
  • Alex Volpenhein (Men’s golf, senior) – Father served in the Navy.
  • Larry Warford (Football, sophomore) – Father, Lawrence Warford, served in the Navy.
  • Taylor Wyndham (Football, sophomore) –Brother-in-law, Warren Culp, served in the Air Force.
