GA group proposes male version of Lady Liberty

The Associated Press

CHARLESTON, S.C.
-- A Georgia-based group is suggesting that Lady Liberty should have a male counterpart affraid .

The Post and Courier of Charleston reports Rodney Cook of the National Monuments Foundation in Atlanta proposed a male version of the Statue of Liberty on Tuesday to the Patriots Point Development Authority in South Carolina.

Cook said the statue could be about the same size as the one in New York Harbor. He said the pedestal could house a museum about South Carolina's role in the Revolution and Civil War.

Cook said the statue would cost as much as $150 million and most would have to be raised privately. Authority officials said it was the first they heard of the idea.

A recorded message said the foundation's telephone number was either disconnected or no longer in service.
