LEXINGTON, Ky.
- Kentucky defeated South Carolina 2-1 Saturday at Cliff Hagan Stadium, evening the weekend series at one win each.

The Wildcats improved to 25-21, 8-15 in the SEC. The Gamecocks fell to 36-10, 17-6 in the SEC.

The day proved to work in the favor of the game's starting pitchers.

Kentucky's Jordan Cooper threw 6.2 innings, struck out five and allowed one earned run to get the win.

USC's Sam Dyson took the loss despite a strong outing, throwing eight innings, striking out eight but allowing the two earned runs.

The game's only runs were scored in the fifth inning.

Gamecocks left-fielder Evan Marzilli account for the team's only run with a solo home run in the top half of the inning. Wildcats designated hitter Braden Kapteyn then doubled in two runs in the bottom half of the fifth.

The series wraps up Sunday with the deciding game starting at 1 p.m.
