Windsor, ON -The Windsor Lancers Men’s Basketball team will open their 2010-11 pre-season by welcoming John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats to Windsor in August.
Calipari’s Wildcats will battle Head Coach Chris Oliver’s Lancers on Sunday, August 15th at 7:00pm at the St. Denis Centre.
Tickets are $10/person and $5 for children 12 and under. Please note that there are only 2,500 tickets available for what is expected to be a sold out event and one of the biggest nights in Windsor this summer.
Advance tickets can be purchased starting Monday, June 14th at three locations in Windsor. The university’s athletic department main office (519-253-3000 ext. 2437), through Head Coach Chris Oliver (ext. 4047) and locally at Nantais Source for Sports (2020 Tecumseh Road West).
“We are really excited to have Coach Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats coming to Windsor,” commented Oliver. “They are without question one of the elite programs in the country and it will be a real treat for our university and our community to have the Wildcats in Windsor in August.”
The Wildcats are one of the top NCAA collegiate programs of all-time and arguably the highest profile team in America right now.
Led by Head Coach John Calipari, Kentucky finished the 2009-10 season with a 35-3 record and reached the Elite Eight in last year’s NCAA Tournament.
Calipari will bring with him the #1 recruiting class in the nation to the St. Denis Centre in August. This is the second straight year that Calipari and his staff have pulled in the top rated recruiting class in the country.
Incredibly, Kentucky has four 5-star prospects and a couple of 4-star prospects joining their 2010-11 roster. Included in that group is skilled big man Enes Kanter (No. 3), top-rated point guard Brandon Knight (No. 6), power forward Terrence Jones (No. 13), shooting guard Doron Lamb (No. 21) and small forward Stacey Poole (No. 33).
In addition, the Wildcats have landed Miami-Dade junior college transfer Eloy Vargas who was named the 2010 Southern Conference Player of the Year.
Kentucky also returns key players Darius Miller, DeAndre Liggins, Darnell Dodson and Jon Hood, giving them enough talent to contend for the SEC title and the NCAA national championship again next season.
For Lancer Head Coach Chris Oliver, these games will be an opportunity to see his squad in action after a busy summer of recruiting and developing individual skills.
“We are excited to get started and see where we are as a team,” said Oliver. “Kentucky will be an incredible test for us and will give our staff an opportunity to see the progress our players have made over the summer.”
