Wall, Cousins named AP First Team All-Americans

I’m not sure how much sting this takes off of their loss to WVU, but DeMarcus Cousins and John Wall were named to the AP’s All-America First Team, along with Wesley Johnson, Scottie Reynolds and Evan Turner. Interestingly, none of these players were on the pre-season team. The freshmen duo joins Ralph Beard and Alex Groza (1948-49) as the only UK tandem to be named to the AP’s First Team. They also become UK’s first AP First Team All-American since Ron Mercer in 1997.

Patrick Patterson, who was a pre-season member of the AP’s First Team, was not named to any of the top three teams, joining Duke’s Kyle Singler as the other pre-season player to not earn post-season honors.
