Tennessee’s Bobby Maze was named SEC Player of the Week after he averaged 14.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists in leading the Volunteers to wins over Charlotte and No. 1 Kansas. With the Vols down to just six scholarship players, Maze had career-highs for points (16) and rebounds (7) while also setting a new season standard with eight assists in UT’s 76-68 upset of top-ranked Kansas. He also had 13 points, five rebounds and three assists in a victory over Charlotte earlier in the week. He made nine of his 10 free throws on the week, including 6-of-7 against the Jayhawks. Maze leads the Vols in assists this season (3.3 apg) and boasts an impressive 2.9 assist/turnover ratio.

Vanderbilt’s John Jenkins was named SEC Freshman of the Week after he averaged 13.0 points and 4.0 rebounds in leading the Commodores to wins over Middle Tennessee and Florida. Jenkins recorded 13 points against both Middle Tennessee and Florida last week. He has now scored in double figures in each of Vanderbilt’s last seven games and 10 times for his career. He was 6-of-13 from three-point range on the week, making three three-pointers in each game. Jenkins has now made at least three three-pointers in six consecutive games. He has made 59.4 percent (22-of-37) of his three-pointers in the last six games, and is shooting 47.4% from three on the season (37-78).
