Former Oklahoma State quarterback Wes Lunt is considering transferring to Southern Miss, Illinois, Louisville, Tennessee or Vanderbilt, a person familiar with his plans said Monday.
Lunt decided to transfer last week after competing with Clint Chelf and J.W. Walsh for the starting position.
Lunt began last season as the Cowboys' starting quarterback as a freshman. Leg and head injuries sidelined him for part of the season, when he threw for 1,108 yards, six touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Lunt will consider proximity to his Illinois home as well as the relationship with the coaches he'd be playing for, according to a source who said Lunt would have liked more communication about where the quarterback competition stood while he was at Oklahoma State.
It is likely that Lunt, 6-foot-4, 215 pounds, will choose one of the five schools and not expand his search, according to a source.
Southern Miss is coached by Todd Monken, the former Oklahoma State offensive coordinator who recruited Lunt to the Cowboys.
Tim Beckman (Illinois), Charlie Strong (Louisville), Butch Jones (Tennessee) and James Franklin (Vanderbilt) also have recruited or have a relationship with Lunt.
