Final Rolling Of Toomer’s Corner Oaks: ESPN To Cover Tradition Live

Apr 6th, 2013 at 8:40 am by Josh SanchezSEC

ESPN producer Jonathan Whyley says that the World Wide Leader of Sports will be setting up a film production crew and will “definitely be there” for the final rolling event on A-Day at the famed Toomer’s Corner. The coverage will air live on Saturday night during a segment on SportsCenter.

ESPN could also be there to cover the removal of the oaks on April 23, but if they are not, they will still get footage to show on the network.

“If not, I think we’re going to try get (footage) from WBMA (ABC 33/40 in Birmingham),” Whyley says. “They’re going to be set up live.”

For those that don’t remember, crazed Alabama fan Harvey Updyke pleaded guilty to poisoning the famed oak trees of his rivals. He is currently serving at least six months in jail and he’s set to spend five years on supervised probation after his release.

For Auburn fans, this will provide some closure to an event that has been haunting them and it will surely be an emotional way to bid farewell to Toomer’s Corner, which has been such a big part of celebrating the school’s wins. At least for those fans that won’t be able to be there for the final rolling, they can tune in to ESPN and experience the tradition one last time.

six months in jail just doesn't seem like nearly enough for that crime
