Former SC first lady Jenny Sanford dating Georgia man
The Associated Press
SULLIVAN'S ISLAND -- Divorced former South Carolina first lady Jenny Sanford has confirmed she's dating a Georgia businessman whose coastal vacation home is a few doors down from hers.
Sanford on Wednesday told The Associated Press she met Clay Boardman when he attended a speech she gave at the College of Charleston on March 17.
The two have gone out in Charleston and also attended The Masters in Augusta last weekend.
Sanford said she and Boardman are "getting along beautifully."
Sanford's divorce from Gov. Mark Sanford became final last month. The pair split after the governor disappeared last June and returned to publicly reveal he had been carrying on an extramarital affair with an Argentine woman.
Jenny Sanford revealed in her book, "Staying True," that she had known about the affair since early 2009, discovering the infidelity in a letter Gov. Sanford had written to his lover that she found on his desk.
She also details in the book the couple's efforts to save their 20-year marriage and speaks candidly about the impact the couple's marital difficulties had on the Sanfords' four sons.
In a whirlwind tour promoting the book this winter, Jenny Sanford said she would one day be open to dating again.
Boardman, according to his company's Web site, is the CEO of Augusta Capital, a Georgia-based real estate investment company. Prior to founding that company, Boardman was CEO of Boardman Petroleum Inc., "a convenience store and truck stop/travel center retail chain with sales of $300 million and over 1,000 employees."
Boardman is also listed as the immediate past president of Historic Augusta, Inc.; vice-chairman of the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation; chairman of the Georgia Health Sciences University Foundation; a member of the Georgia Cities Foundation board; and a trustee at Paine College, a private historically black college in Augusta.
A Website dedicated to historic preservation says Boardman is a graduate of the College of Charleston.
